I bought this mandoline to replace another that I have already. I like this one better because it has its' own container to catch what you're cutting. Compared to my other mandoline the slide rail and safety food holder are much easier and safer to use and prevent me from cutting my fingers on it like I would with my old mandoline. It really nice that it has different blade types so I can use it to cut my food a variety of different ways. With the blades I can replace a few items I already have and it opens up more space in my kitchen. It was easy to wash in my dishwasher which is a big plus for me because I try to avoid having to hand wash anything. I would definitely recommend buying this for anyones kitchen it makes food prep easier.
I purchased this because I always wanted to try a mandoline, but never was brave enough to try one. This one looked well made, and easy to use.
It arrived a few weeks ago and I've used it several times to make potato chips, sweet potato chips, zucchini chips, and cucumber chips. It works so well, and the chips have been so tasty baked in the oven that we haven't used any attachments beyond the plain and ridged chip slicer!
It's a very well made item. The various blade sets lock safely inside the body of the tool itself when not in use, and the guard/guide is also well made and easy to use while keeping yourself safe. The bin makes it very convienent to use, but if you have a big job to do, a series of notches has been built in to the body of the tool so that you can place it safely over the rim of a bowl so that you can slice much more than you could with the regular bottom attachment.
Overall, I love this, and I'm glad I bought it. It's quite well made, and together with how well their vacuum food preserver works
I was very excited to try this because grating and slicing veggies is always a little bit difficult and dangerous without a guard. I really love the sleek design and how everything has a place to go. They provide a great variety of blades and cuts to choose from. The first thing I made were potato latkes, so I grated potato and onion which was easier than usual and they both went easily straight into the bowl. Cleaning up was even easier!
The plastic is thick and sturdy, feels like good quality. Blades are found within the mandoline body through inserts. Although it took me a while to figure out which way they go in and come out, I was pretty impressed by the design and how little space the whole set up takes up. We tried the wavy cut on apples and it was fairly easy - although would recommend a non-slip surface as the mandoline is very light itself.
Cleaning was a breeze and quickly dried. Since the handle sits securely on the main body, storage is very easy as well. It definitely beats having many separate pieces to keep track of.
I have had a few mandolines over the years, and this is my favorite! First, it is VERY sharp (like I needed a Band-Aid sharp). I have used it for a variety of fruits and vegetables and it has always done a wonderful job. Second, there are a lot of different blades, so there are cutting options from slicing to julienne. Third, ALL of the blades clip into the unit for storage in a compact way. That was a complaint that I had with previous mandolines. It was very hard to find a way to store the blades without damaging them or nicking my finger trying to pick one up from the pile. This is very well-thought-out. Fourth, because of the way it is designed, the sliced items go right into a storage container, so it's not messy. My last two were free-standing, and the sliced fruits or vegetables fell all over the place. Finally, I have had this since April and wanted to use it a lot before reviewing it. It is still very sharp and does a great job. I sliced the potatoes for scalloped potatoes in minutes.
